“Kanban” here mean ‘specially da whole bundle of ideas inside dis booky.

By squishing Kanban down to only da essential bits, dis booky wanna be da one togethery reference.
Da planny build on da Kanban basics and can hug a big wide rainbow of banana-giving and big-boss headache.

What Is Kanban, Den?

Kanban is a planny for making da banana zoom-zoom betta through a process, using a looky, pully system.

Banana can mean da customer, da end-user, da company, or da big blue planet.

Da Big Do-Dos:

1. Makey and looky da worky-flow
2. Manage da worky bits in da worky-flow, all da time
3. Fix-fix da worky-flow

All togethery dese make a Kanban system, and da peeps in it is Kanban system peeps.

Why Use Kanban?

Zoom-zoom is da maybe-banana moving through a system.
Kanban’s goal is to make banana big by making da zoom-zoom good, which mean balancing:

• Giv da right stuff – Giv customers what dey want, when dey want it
• No wastey – Use da monies and minion-power da best way
• No surprisey – Guessy da banana-giving close enough

Kanban help teams ask da right questions sooner-sooner, and work in all kinds o’ jobs like monies, doctor-place, shouty-selling, and computery.

• Wibbly-wobbly and quality checky-check

Manage Da Work: Bossing Da Worky Bits

Ways of active bossing:

• Bossing da WIP
• Keepin’ away from queues
• Watchin’ bit-oldy-ness with da SLE

• Use WIP limits (numbers, or tokens/slots)
• WIP limits can go on one state, or on many states bunched togethery
• Dis make a pully system: new work only get pulled when dere is room
• Going over da WIP should be rare-rare and writted out-loud in da DoW

Time Expecty (SLE)

• Guessy of how long a bit take to finish (like, “85% within 8 days”)
• Built from oldy cycly time, or a best guessy at da start
• Should be looky-showed on da Kanban boardy

Fix Da Work: Making Da Worky-Flow Betta

Teams keep fixing by:

• Tweaky da DoW using da looky and da zoom-zoom numbers
• Making changes whenever needed, no only at big formal meetings
• Making teeny changes AND big changes, whatever da situationy say

Kanban Measure-Bits

Da teeny-minimum zoom-zoom numbers:

• WIP: Work started but no finished yet
• Throughputty: How many bits finish per chunk o’ time
• Worky Bit Oldy-ness: Time since a no-finished bit started
• Cycly Time: Time from start to finish for a worky bit

Dese numbers only matter if dey feed da Kanban do-dos.
Looky-making (like charty-charts) is a good idea.
Extra local numbers is cheered on too.
