What Dis Booky For

Dis booky wanna be da one togethery reference for da tribe, by setting a teeny-minimum set of rules for Kanban. It build on da Kanban basics to hold up da whole big rainbow of banana-giving and big-boss headache.

In dis doccy, “Kanban” mean da whole bundle of ideas writted here.

What Is Kanban, Den?

Kanban is a planny for making da banana zoom-zoom betta through a process, using a looky, pully system. Banana can mean lotsa things (like what da customer need, what da user need, what da company need, what da big blue planet need).

Kanban got tree big do-dos:

• Makey and looky da worky-flow
• Manage da worky bits in da worky-flow, all da time
• Fix-fix da worky-flow

Dese do-dos togethery make a Kanban system, and da peeps who join in is Kanban system peeps.

Why Use Kanban?

Kanban look hard at zoom-zoom — da maybe-banana moving through a system. It wanna make giv-da-right-stuff, no-wastey and no-surprisey as good as dey can be:

• Giv da right stuff: Giv customers what dey want, when dey want it.
• No wastey: Use da monies and minion-power da best way.
• No surprisey: Can guessy da banana-giving close enough, even with da wobbly unknowns.

Kanban push da fix-fix along by making peeps ask betta questions earlier-earlier. It fit almost any worky-flow and almost any job-kind.

Kanban Brainy-Think

Kanban build on old-and-goody brainy-think:

• Systems thinky-think
• Lean rules
• Queue brainy-think (like how big da batchy, how long da liney)
• Wibbly-wobbly and quality checky-check

Kanban can holdy-hand with other banana-giving ways and methody-methods.

Da shared understandy of zoom-zoom is called da Definitiony of Worky-Flow (DoW). It must-must got:

• Say-so for what da worky bits is
• Say-so for started and finished
• Da states from started to finished (WIP)
• How da WIP get bossed
• Out-loud zoom-zoom policies
• Time Expecty (SLE)

Da Kanban boardy is da looky-version of da DoW. Dere is no bossy rules for how it look — see-through is da whole point.

Manage Da Work: Bossing Da Worky Bits

Dis got do-dos like:

• Bossing da WIP
• No letting bits pile-pile up
• Stopping bits from getting oldy-oldy for no reason
• Unstucky da stucked work

Regular luks (but no must be formal) is cheered on.

Bossing Da Work In Progresso

WIP must-must be bossed out-loud, often with WIP Limits (numbers or tokens). Dis make a pully system — bits get pulled only when dere is room.

Any exceptions must-must be writted out-loud in da DoW.

Time Expecty (SLE)

SLE = chunk o’ time + how-sure number (like, “85% of worky bits finish in 8 days”).
Use oldy cycly time to work it out, and looky-show it on da boardy. Use a guessy if yu got no data yet.

Fix Da Work: Making Da Worky-Flow Betta

Teams keep fixing da worky-flow to get a betta balance of giv-da-right-stuff, no-wastey and no-surprisey.

Fixes can be teeny-steppy or BIG, and should happen whenever needed — no only on a set beaty.

Kanban Measure-Bits

Da four teeny-minimum zoom-zoom measures:

• WIP: Work started but no finished
• Throughputty: Worky bits finished per chunk o’ time
• Worky Bit Oldy-ness: Time since a bit started
• Cycly Time: Time from started to finished

Looky-show dese measures with whatever charty-charts help. Teams may use extra local numbers too.

Da Kanban do-dos and measure-bits is no-can-change. Half-doing it is no Kanban. Other techniques can be gluey’d on, but da minimum do-dos, da numbers, and da spirit of making banana big must-must stay.
